Inspiring Healthy Youth. Building Skills On and Off the Court.

We’re excited to welcome you to The First Paddle Post—the official blog of First Paddle, a youth pickleball training program powered by Southern Pickleball Academy . Whether you're a parent, volunteer, or young player, this space is designed to inform, inspire, and connect our growing pickleball community

What is First Paddle?

First Paddle is a structured, progressive program for youth ages 8–14 that teaches pickleball fundamentals with character development activities that will carry them through life. Students advance through three distinct skill levels:

  • Novices – A beginner-friendly introduction to the game.

  • Skill Builders – For those strengthening their foundation and consistency.

  • Strategy Builders – Designed for students ready to apply advanced techniques and tactical decision-making.

Each six-week course combines skill-building drills, game-based learning, and match play in a supportive environment while focusing on the core values of respect, responsibility, communication, perseverance, integrity, and sportsmanship. Classes are offered at least twice per year, and students complete a skill assessment at the end of each level to ensure they’re ready to progress.
